The fine folks at Autoblog.com (with a hat tip to HybridCars.com) took a look at the year-to-date sales numbers for clean diesels and hybrids in the United States and came up with some very interesting math for fans of TDI® vehicles and its sister technologies. Overall hybrid sales for the year were down 10% through September, while clean diesel vehicles were up an astonishing 124.1% for the same time period over last year! We at Volkswagen sold almost 5,000 of our Jetta TDI clean diesel vehicles in September alone!
Now, we know that clean diesel technology is amazing and we’ve been evangelizing it for quite some time. But we have to admit that nearly a 125% increase in sales for the overall industry from last year surprises even us. So what conclusions can we draw?
More than anything, this suggests that American consumers are starting to get the TDI clean diesel message. They recognize that you can enjoy the thrill of driving while still conserving fuel and reducing your carbon footprint.* And it’s with good reason that the Jetta TDI sedan leads the pack. It boasts 42 highway mpg and produces up to 90% fewer emissions than previous diesels.
Congratulations to our fans for helping to spread the TDI message. Let’s make 2011 another record year for clean diesel sales in the United States. That’s Das Auto!

We love our 2010 Jetta Sportwagen TDI! (Golf Estate/Variant)
But VW.. please. OFFER TDI ENGINES IN MORE MODELS IN THE USA! If you put the 2 liter CR TDI engine in the Tiguan, and priced it right, you would own the segment. Oh, and the Sharan, Polo, Scirocco, Golf R? Bring those across the pond as well

Is anybody (VW. AUDI, DOT, States, etc) lobbing to reduce the sale tax on Diesel Fuel to make it equal to regular gasoline. Why should road building, bridges, etc. be put on our backs? We are not semi’s.

We searched the whole State of Florida and also the surrounding states for a 2010 TDI white or silver.First off you would not catch me dead or alive in a 2011 POS Jetta AKA dodge neon rear torsion bar vehicle. We were able to locate 4 vehicles most were manual. We ended up buying a brand new 2010 leftover 12 miles from our house. It is red.My wife was so not wanting a red car and I was surprised this was still available, zero % finance offer ends at midnight. She is now very happy I convinced her that it was red or nothing. The red is deep in color and very nice.We like it.What a shame the 2011 Jettas have become. My 2010 will book 60% more in five years than the 2011 changeover Jetta.TDI is king of the road and the 2010 Jetta is the last of the line for quality, zero % finance was a welcome gift as well.Grab those 2010 Jettas before they are all gone, the 2011 Jettas are POS in the new design.

I love my TDI but how about VW does something about the limitation they’ve created on biodiesel usage in their TDI’s. Then I’d REALLY be singing their praises.

I work on VW diesel’s and Hybrid’s for a living. I have to say the I love the diesel technology plus performance. You just can’t get as much fun and efficiency out of a Hybrid. Volkswagen has got their finger on the heartbeat of america and I love what they do for me.
