Introducing America’s Most Affordable Clean Diesel Sedan
If there’s one thing facing today’s car buyer, it’s choice. From models to colors and accessories, the options can seem endless. Despite this, few cars have truly been capable of delivering fun, power, fuel efficiency*, and affordability in one smartly designed package.
Enter the new Volkswagen Jetta TDI® Clean Diesel. With fuel efficiency rated at up to 41 MPG*, and a price starting at $22,270 MSRP** (not to mention federal tax incentives†), this turbocharged German-engineered sedan makes choosing a lot easier.
Clean Diesel Technology
Power for Volkswagen’s fuel-frugal sedan comes from the VW’s TDI direct injection technology. In simple terms, diesel fuel is sprayed directly into the engine where it mixes with hot, compressed air and causes an explosion. This internal combustion translates to power, something the Volkswagen Jetta TDI delivers in abundance. And something it delivers cleanly. Through the use of ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel (ULSD) and a sophisticated emissions system, the Jetta TDI is up to 95% cleaner than past diesel engines.
Clean Design
As significant as Volkswagen’s TDI technology is, it would be wasted if it powered a vehicle no one wanted. No need to worry about that with the Jetta TDI. Like all Jetta models, the TDI vehicle features a comfortable cabin decorated with rich materials and intuitive controls.
Comfort and Convenience
Based on the mid-level Jetta SE, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI is outfitted with a generous list of standard features including a premium sound system and heated front seats. A touch screen navigation system (with helpful directions to the nearest diesel refueling station) is optional. Every Jetta TDI sedan also comes standard with six airbags††, antilock disc brakes, and Volkswagen’s Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP).
Value Beyond Fuel Economy
When it comes to compact sedans, value is often delivered with respect to affordable prices and efficient engines. The same could be said of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI sedan, but the TDI goes further with features, style and design befitting pricier cars, a fun factor not found in most small sedans and hybrids, and a $1,300 federal tax credit†. Add to that Volkswagen’s Carefree Maintenance (three years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, of no charge scheduled maintenance)§, and achieving up to 41 MPG on the highway* almost seems like icing on the cake.

I drove round trip from home near Washington, DC to Richmond, VA today, about 100 miles each way, im my 2009 Jetta TDI. On the trip down I was in a little hurry, so I drove mostly at about 65 mph and was in and out of cruise control, having to often tap the brakes to slow down a bit and then accelerate back up to my cruising speed. I got 46 mpg. On the way back I was not in a hurry and the traffic was lighter. I set the cruise control at 60, and literally only had to touch the brakes about 3 times the whole time. As I approached home I had to reduce my cruise to 55, and later 50 because of increasing traffic. I got 54 mpg! I was amazed what a very steady reasonable speed will do for the gas mileage.

I purchased my 2011 Jetta 3 weeks ago from steve hill at pete moore imports in Pensacola, fl. Since my purchase i have averaged 37.5 mpg in town and at the present time i am visiting my daughter in Suffolk,Va. On my way to virginia i averaged 41 mpg at 80 mph on the interstate. MY highest mpg seems to be around 50 mph which i managed 50mpg over a 30 mile stretch of road.
